Monroe Valley Chapel

The Monroe Valley Chapel is a historic landmark located in northern Lebanon county. This post-Revolutionary War era church is situated between two ridges of the Appalachian Mountains in the area known as Monroe Valley. The site of the chapel and its adjoining cemetery is adjacent to the Monroe Valley Golf Course. Despite its rich history, the present state of the chapel is one of deterioration, neglect, and ruin. This condition is due partly to the years of vacancy and general vandalism and partly to the harsh and destructive winter of 1993.

Early in the year of 1993 several area residents became concerned of the worsening condition of the chapel. These citizens, who were also members of the Historic Preservation Trust, contacted Northern Lebanon High School in search of a solution to the Monroe Valley Chapel problem. A group of students, under the diligent leadership of their history teacher Mr. Tom Donmoyer, decided to tackle the problem. This group not only undertook the task of clearing the area of underbrush and litter but also the incredible effort to restore the Monroe Valley Chapel. Through the help of concerned citizens and the Historic Preservation Trust, the student group has rallied community support with fundraisers and publicity.

With the continued support and cooperation of the Historic Preservation Trust and the community, we can raise the necessary money and manpower to completely restore the Monroe Valley Chapel.
