Here are some possibilities and locations where you might find additional Light surname information.
We do not have much Light surname information aside from our own line, and the data entry is still rather incomplete on these pages. (Keep checking back.)
Our Light Family has its roots in Switzerland-Germany through a Johannes Licht. Best sources tell us he migrated to Pennsylvania from the Palatinate in the early 1700s.
There are several other rather prolific British and German Light Families of whom we know very little (having not seen any documentation on them, but check here*). Some of the British Lights may also tie to Palatine origins.
The only recent publication we know of on any Light Family (1990) is out of print and very difficult to find: History and Genealogy of Early Pioneer Families of Lebanon County, Pennsylvania by J. G. Francis. It was preceded by an early family publication by Moses Light and, like it, centers on the descendants of Johannes Licht of Lebanon, PA.
"Pioneers" was edited by Betty M. Light Behr who holds the copyright and who founded the newsletter, "SearchLight", for any and all of the Light surname. She no longer publishes the newsletter. Contact Christopher J. Light, Editor & Publisher, 2307 Worthington Drive, Valparaiso, IN 46383. A US subscription was $7.50 per year in 2000 and free inquiries were available in each quarterly issue.
Betty knows more about the Light surname (and variations) than anyone I've encountered. She is now concentrating on a supplement to HGEPFLC. If you have determined your Light family to be of proven, likely, or possible descent from the Lebanon, PA line of Johannes Licht, write to her; if she has answers to your questions she'll pass on what she knows, she is very generous with her time or she'll refer you. Betty M. Light Behr, Pioneers Supplement, Rt. #8, Carmel, New York 10512-9808. You'll get four quarterly copies.
